When I was five, my brothers decided to teach me the fine art of grilled cheese sandwiches.


Sliced cheese.

Searing hot iron skillet.

Being a curious and trusting soul, I asked how they know when the skillet is hot enough?  They kindly explained that if you wet your palm and it sticks to the pan it means it’s hot enough.

Basically, that was the moment that got the cooking bug started for me.  That and the time when my Aunt lost her mind after she cut her finger preparing something and managed to get blood all over the kitchen.
